Warming Up

Counting Words

In the previous lesson, you wrote a few paragraphs about your favorite sport. In this lesson, you're going to verify that you wrote enough words to earn an A+.

Lesson Steps

  1. Open your writing portfolio.
    • Level 1:
      • My Favorite Sport
  2. Select (highlight) the paragraphs that you wrote for "My Favorite Sport".
  3. Go to Tools and select Word Count.
  4. Make a mental note of the number of words that you wrote.
    • Do not confuse Word Count with Character Count. It's the Word Count that's important.
  5. The next question we need to answer is this:
    • Did you write enough?
  6. The minimum word count for this assignment was 50 words. Therefore . . .
    • If you wrote more than 50 words, you're okay. You may have even earned some extra credit.
    • If you wrote less than 50 words, you didn't write enough to earn an A+. If that's the case, now is your chance to write more:
      • Can you add a few more details?
      • Can you add a few more sentences?
  7. When you are satisfied with your word count, return to this page and take the quiz

Key Point:

Each time I give you a writing assignment, I'm also going to give you a minimum word count. This is the minimum number of words that I expect you to write.

To earn an A+ in this class, make sure that you always meet the minimum word count.
