Create a Header

In this lesson you will learn how to create a header that conforms to the guidelines set by the Modern Language Association (MLA).

Create a header.

  • Click Insert, Header
  • Click the icon for Align Margin Right in order to bring your cursor to the right margin.
  • Type your last name.
  • Push the space bar once to add one space after your last name.
  • Click Insert, Page Number.
  • Choose the option in the top-left corner (that is, the one that places the page number in the top-right corner).
  • Verify that the box which says "Different first page" is NOT checked.

Verify that your header is in the same 12 pt. font as the rest of your paper.

  • Put your cursor at the beginning of your last name.
  • Click and drag the cursor to the right until you have selected both your name and the page number.
  • Verify that they are both in a Calibri 12 pt. font.
  • Click somewhere in the body of your paper to get out of the header.
