Clean Up Your Spacing (Print Style)

When writing a paper, I find it easier to do my first few drafts in "internet style".

If I'm going to turn in a paper copy, I wait until I'm nearly finished, and then I take these last few steps.

Lesson Steps

1

Double-Space everything EXCEPT for your block quote and the block of information that goes in the top-left corner of your paper.

  • Honestly, sometimes it's easier to do it one or two paragraphs at a time.
  • Select the paragraph you want to double-space.
  • Click on the "Spacing" icon in the menu bar.
  • Choose "2".
  • DO NOT double-space by pressing "Enter" after each line! If you do, editing your paper will be a nightmare, because you will have to re-do the spacing every time you add or delete a few words.
2

There should not be an extra space between your paragraphs. If there are, get rid of them.

If you can't seem to get rid of them, go to "Spacing" icon and click "Custom Spacing."

  • uncheck the box that says "Put extra space between paragraphs.
  • Make sure that the box that says extra space" is set at "0".
3

Congratulations! You're done with this lesson.
