Narrative Tense and POV


Point of View (1)

Stories are told from a "point of view" (often abbreviated POV). This term refers to the "eyes" through which we see the story unfold.

There are three main points of view:

1st Person

“I” am telling the story.

  • "I" is called the 1st person pronoun.

2nd Person

"You" are the main character in the story.

  • "You" is called the 2nd person pronoun.

3rd Person

The story is about other people (he, she, they).

  • "He" and "she" are called 3rd person pronouns.
