Personification
Personification is another figurative language technique.
It's when a non-human object acts in a human way.
- Lightning danced across the sky.
- Dry leaves stirred and whispered in the warm wind.
- My car complained as I drove up the hill.
- My alarm clock yells at me to get out of bed every morning.
- The frost paints the pines in the winter time.
Lightning doesn't really dance, and dry leaves don't really whisper. But if we use our imagination, we can pretend that they do. When we use our imagination in this way, we are personifying the lightning, or the leaves, or whatever.
