The Three Most Common Mistakes

Here are the three most common mistakes that I see in 6th grade writing:

Mistake Example

Failure to capitalize the first word of a sentence.

you'd be surprised at how many students make this mistake.

Failure to put a period at the end of a sentence.

This is another common mistake

Failure to capitalize proper nouns.

  • Proper nouns are the specific names of people, places, or things.
  • My name is brenda.
  • I go to presidio middle school.
  • Last year I went to france.

In the previous lesson, you wrote 10 sentences about yourself.

In this lesson, you're going to proofread those sentences. (To proofread something means to read it carefully to make sure that you haven't made any careless errors.)

Lesson Steps

  1. Go to your Google Drive and open up your writing portfolio.
  2. Carefully proofread the 10 sentences that you wrote in the previous lesson.
    • Did you capitalize the first word of each sentence?
    • Did you put a period at the end of each sentence?
    • Did you capitalize all proper nouns?
  3. Fix any mistakes that you may have made.
