 Introduction

## Calculating Your Grade

Most grades are basically fractions:

Number of Points That You Have Earned Total Possible Points

To calculate your grade for your portfolio, all you need to do is plug in the numbers:

• The numerator (top number) is the total number of points that you have earned for your portfolio. (Total word count ÷ 5).
• The denominator (bottom number) is 60. That's the total number of points that I have assigned (up to this point in time). In other words, it's the number of points that an A+ student would have.
Number of Points That You Have Earned 60

Now you're just a few steps away from calculating your grade:

Step 1:

Convert this fraction into a percentage. In other words, divide the top number by the bottom number, and then multiply by 100. (Don't forget: To multiply by 100, simply slide the decimal point two places to the right.)

For example:

• 50/60 = 50 ÷ 60 = .83
• .83 x 100 = 83%

Step 2:

Convert your percentage into a letter grade, using the following table:

 Greater than 90% A 80–89% B 70–79% C 60–69% D Less than 60% F
