Grammar 10

Triple Compounds

The following sentence has three clauses:

Greece is beautiful the beaches are clean the food is delicious.

Of course, to punctuate the sentence properly, we must splice the clauses together using semicolons or coordinating conjunctions (fanboys). Here are some possibilities:

  • Greece is beautiful; the beaches are clean; the food is delicious.
  • Greece is beautiful, and the beaches are clean, and the food is delicious.
  • Greece is beautiful, and the beaches are clean; the food is delicious.
  • Greece is beautiful; the beaches are clean, and the food is delicious.

Using different "fanboys", we might also come up with variations like this:

  • Greece is a poor choice for a holiday destination; the beaches are clean, but the food is too expensive.
