Study the sentences in the table below.
- Some of the sentences are in the continuous tense. The words that form the continuous tense have been highlighted for you. Think of them as "one big verb." Notice how the continuous tense is formed by the word "is" (or one of its many conjugations) followed by an "-ing verb."
- Some of the sentences are equative sentences. In these cases, the word that follows "is" is always an adjective or noun. That adjective or noun is the complement of the sentence.
