Small Stuff: Articles, Poems, and Songs
Let's review the basic rule:
- Big stuff gets italicized.
- Small stuff gets put within quotation marks.
By "big stuff", we mean the titles of longer works, such as books, plays, movies, websites, newspapers, etc.
By "small stuff", we mean the titles of shorter works, such as:
- articles
- short stories
- poems
- chapter titles
- songs
- etc.
Study the following examples:
- My favorite poem is "A Song out of Midian" by Robert E. Howard.
- My favorite short story is "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe.
- My favorite song is Dolly Parton's version of "But You Know That I Love You".
