Tag at the End

Here is another way to punctuate dialogue:

"Let's go inside," he said.

Note the following points:

  • "Let's go inside!" he exclaimed.
  • "Should we go inside?" she asked.

"Let's go inside," said he.

Here are some more examples:

"The water is cold," Joe said.

"I left my homework at home," Sandra explained.

"It's too late," said the gardener.

"My finger hurts!" the boy exclaimed.

"Are you serious?" she asked.
