Many student use fancy or colored fonts to spruce up their blog or a Google Doc.

I get it. I used to be in middle school too. Fancy fonts seems like such a cool way to make your writing stand out. You want to make people notice. You want to announce to the world that you're special.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but in the grown-up world—the world of academic and professional writing—fancy fonts are considered a sign of the amateur. It will make your readers think, "This looks like it was written by a middle schooler."
