What Have We Accomplished?

As we reach the end of this unit, let's pause for a moment to think about what we've accomplished.

1. I hope your writing muscles feel warmed up.
2. You have learned how to put writing assignments in your writing portfolio.
3. You have learned that I expect all your paragraphs to be formatted in internet style.
4. You have learned the importance of meeting the minimum word count.
5. And finally, I have stressed the importance of always proofreading your work.

Moving forward, I'm not going to always remind you: Proofread your work! But I still expect you to do it. In fact, it's one of the most important things I look for in student writing. No matter how clever or creative you are, your writing will always be subpar, if you fail to proofread your work.

In the next lesson—the final lesson of this unit—we're going to revisit the "Three Most Common Mistakes" that we covered at the beginning of this unit—but this time we're going to take it a few steps further. We're going to expand the list from "Three Common Mistakes" to "11 Rules of Good Writing." I hope—and expect—that you'll follow these rules for all future writing assignments.
