Blog Post #1: About Me

In this lesson, you're going to write a blog post with the title "About Me." The only requirement (for now) is that you write at least 100 words.

Here is one way that you can approach this assignment:

Start by answering the following 10 questions (or any similar questions). Make sure that you write your answers in complete sentences.

Here is an example:

  1. What is your name? What does your name mean? Where does it come from?
  2. My name is Tefel Hall.

  3. Where were you born?
  4. I was born on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico.

  5. Have you ever lived in any other place besides San Francisco? Where have you lived? What do you remember about that place?
  6. For three years, I lived in Japan. Now I live in San Francisco.

  7. What languages do you speak?
  8. My primary language is English, but I can also speak a little Japanese.

  9. What do your parents do for work?
  10. My father works in an office, and my mother is a nurse.

  11. What do you want to be when you grow up?
  12. When I grow up, I want to be a dancer.

  13. What do you do in your free time? What are some of your favorite activities or hobbies?
  14. In my free time, I like to play the guitar.

  15. What is your favorite holiday?
  16. My favorite holiday is Halloween.

  17. What is your favorite food?
  18. My favorite food is pasta with cream sauce.

  19. What is something interesting that you have done recently?
  20. Last summer, I went to Mount Shasta. I also taught myself how to Hula Hoop.

Next, put those sentences together, in paragraph form. Here is my example:

My name is Tefel Hall. I was born on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. For three years, I lived in Japan. Now I live in San Francisco. My primary language is English, but I can also speak a little Japanese. My father works in an office, and my mother is a nurse. When I grow up, I want to be a dancer. In my free time, I like to play the guitar. My favorite holiday is Halloween. My favorite food is pasta with cream sauce. Last summer, I went to Mount Shasta. I also taught myself how to Hula Hoop.

Now, split your paragraph up into two (or more) shorter paragraphs.

Finally, give your post a title. The title of this post should be "Blog Post #1: About Me". Notice how I have capitalized the title. Every word of a title should be capitalized, except for grammatical articles and prepositions.

Lesson Steps

  1. Go to your Google Drive and open your writing portfolio.
  2. Write a blog post with the title "Blog Post #1: About Me."
  3. Put your cursor on the title, then, in the ribbon, change "Normal text" to "Heading 1". If you have done this correctly, your title should now appear in your Outline. (I like to call the Outline the Table of Contents.)
