                       SOME TERRORISTS HARBORED IN THE U.S., YEAR 2000

 

ARGENTINA

Admiral Jorge Enrico

Was associated with La Escuela Mecanica, in Buenos Aires, the infamous torture center of AThe Dirty War@ period, 1976-83, during which Argentina accumulated an appalling record of torture, baby kidnaping and disappearances.  Presently resides, at least partly, in Hawaii.

 

CAMBODIA                                                            

Thiounn Prasith

Was the Cambodian envoy to the United Nations representing Pol Pot=s Khmer Rouge from 1979 to 1993, even though the Khmer Rouge were ousted from power in 1979.  Prasith was a leading apologist for Pol Pot=s horrendous crimes and played a major role in their cover up.  Presently lives in Mount Vernon, New York.

 

CHILE

Military Squad Member, Armando Fernandez Larios

The squad was responsible for the torture and execution of at least 72 political prisoners in the month following the 1973 coup in which democratically-elected President Salvador Allende was killed and dictator Augusto Pinochet took power.  As an agent of Chile=s notorious secret police, the DINA, Larios was involved in the 1976 murder, in Washington, D.C., of Chilean dissident official, Orlando Letelier.  Presently lives in the U.S. 

 

Michael Townley

Played a significant role in the assassination, in Washington, D.C., of Chilean dissident official, Orlando Letelier.  Presently lives in the United States, under the protection of the Federal Witness Protection Program.

 

CUBA

Cuban exiles             

Responsible for numerous acts of sabotage against Cuba, including the hijacking of boats and airplanes, since 1959, when Fidel Castro took power.  They live with impunity in Miami, FL

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

EL SALVADOR

General Jose Guillermo Garcia

Head of the armed forces in the 1980's, when military-linked death squads killed thousands of people suspected of being subversives.  Has lived in Florida since the early 1990's.

 

General Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova

As Head of the national guard, covered up and protected those who raped and murdered three American nuns and a lay worker in 1980, according to the U.N. Truth Commission for El Salvador.  Was present at the torture of Dr. Juan Romagoza Arce, an El Salvadoran surgeon.  Presently lives in Florida.

 

ETHIOPIA

Kebassa Negawa

Was convicted of torture in an Atlanta court then disappeared.  Is probably living in the U.S.

 

GUATEMALA

Hector Gramajo Morales, Defense Minister

In 1995, found guilty by a U.S. court of devising and directing the implementation of an indiscriminate campaign of terror against civilians, including the torture of an American citizen (Sister Diana Ortiz, in 1989).  Was allowed to return to Guatemala without paying damages to the victims, as court-ordered.

 

HAITI

Minister of the Interior and Defense, Luckner Cambronne

Served under Francois APapa Doc@ Duvalier and his son and successor, Jean Claude ABaby Doc@ Duvalier.  Responsible for the repression under the Duvalier dynasty and the overthrow of the democratically-elected Father Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1991.  Lives in the United States. 

 

Army Lt Col. Paul Samuel Jeremie

Escaped in 1988 from a Haitian prison after serving one year of a 15-year sentence for torturing Duvalier opponents.  Lives in the United States.

 

General and Dictator, Proper Avril

Responsible for the torture of opposition activists.  Forced out by angry mobs in 1990 and flown to Florida by the U.S. government.  Fled to several countries after some of his torture victims brought suit against him in the U.S.

 


Army Chief, Carl Dorelien

Oversaw a 7,000-man force responsible for the death of some 5,000 civilians by means which included rape, kidnaping and torture during the period of Jean Bertrand Aristide=s exile, 1991-94.  Presently lives in Florida.

 

Head of FRAPH, Emmanuel Constant

Was on the CIA payroll after the 1991 coup against Aristide, as head of the FRAPH, the paramilitary group which committed regular murders, torture, public beatings, arson raids on poor neighborhood and mutilation by machete.  Presently lives in New York.  The U.S. has refused several extradition requests from the Haitian government. 

 

Major General Jean-Claude Duperval

Also responsible for spreading terror.  Presently lives in the U.S.

 

Ernst Prud=homme, Official, Bureau d=Information et Coordination, Haiti

The Bureau was a notoriously violent propaganda unit.  Presently lives in the U.S.

 

HONDURAS

Two Members, Battalion 316

During the 1990's, the CIA-supported infamous Battalion 316 kidnaped, tortured and killed hundreds of suspected leftists, using such techniques of interrogation as shock and suffocation devices. At least two former Battalion members presently live in Florida.

 

INDONESIA

General Sintong Panjaitan

Responsible for the 1991 Santa Cruz, East Timor, massacre that took hundreds of lives.  Presently lives in the U.S.

 

IRAN

General Mansour Moharari

In charge of prisons (infamous for their use of torture) under the Shah.  Presently lives in the U.S.

 

SOUTH VIETNAM

Officers, South Vietnam

At least 20 former South Vietnamese officers who have admitted to committing torture and other human rights violations during the Vietnam War, are presently living in California.
